Dental caries is one of the most common problems encountered in the day-to-day life. It is believed that oral cavity harbors more than 1 billion bacteria. Studies reveal that there is always a prevalence of carious lesions with certain bacterial species in children and adults which has increased among developing and underdeveloped nations where the methods of proper oral hygiene and plaque control are not administered. The available evidence in the literature suggests that oral prophylaxis by the physician is essential to maintain the necessary high level of efficiency to eradicate these caries causing bacteria. It is probable that only highly motivated and educated individuals can maintain such a high standard of caries and plaque control. Though recent advancements have changed the caries rate and the life style of individuals, still the eradication of caries and its associated lesions are a debate.

The book named "Dental Caries and Oral Microbes" enlightens us with the prevalence of dental caries in relation to oral microbes. This book is unique as it compiles the historical aspects of oral microbes causing dental caries, types of bacteria, sequelae of dental carious lesion of oral cavity. This book aims to eradicate the dental caries not by treating the carious lesions but by blocking the action of these microbes on oral cavity by understanding the physiological interactions of tooth and various bacterial species.

This book will provide us indepth knowledge of various oral microbes and their prevalence in dental carious lesions and methods to prevent them at molecular levels. We are sure that this book will become a useful guide for Dental public health personnel in their clinical practice and useful addition to the libraries.
